Atheists, where you live and work, how easy is it to admit that you are an atheist and get along just fine with the people around you?

I'm an atheist Sudanese currently living and working in Kuwait.Where I'm at,depending on a given environment and context and the kind of people I'm around at the time, you can either say that you are an atheist(because some Muslims are okay with it saying that "there is no compulsion in religion" and that you are free to believe or not believe with only god judging you in the afterlife),say that I'm irreligious(because to some its lighter than "atheist" and merits a lighter response and action)or pretend that I'm are a Muslim(at times for safety reasons too)…

I work in human resources at a perfumes factory and over there only two people know that I'm "irreligious"(the deputy general manager and the financial manager). The rest may just seem to assume that I'm automatically a Muslim, from my name…

Since it's late here where I live in the USA and I know you need support, I'm going to tell you things I've never told anyone.

I am a female living in what most people consider the worst place to live in the free world if you're a Christian, which is the Southeast. Some call it the "Bible Belt".

My parents are both incredibly smart people, other than their religion. My Dad has a master's degree in economics and a PhD in education. He is a tenured professor at the University of Florida and is a recognized expert in his field.

My Mom owns an insurance agency. She is so busy that she can't even take any new customers which is unheard of in her business. Her priority is serving her existing customers and that keeps her busy enough.

I came out as an atheist 3 years ago. I expected to be disowned and pushed out of my job. Here's the funny thing........

Actually, I have been treated better than before I was a Christian.

I found out that 2 co-workers are agnostics. Now we're BFFs. I don't know any Muslims but I suppose they're the same.

I just want you to know you're not alone, and I wish you well! HUGS to you!

Very easy. I live in the UK, where nobody really cares if you're an atheist.

But you do sound greatly like a liar. your story has several contradictions in it.

It doesn't come up in conversation. I don't volunteer that information, the people I work with don't tell me their religion.

  • With atheism you will never be able to have many resources, also because, when you need some supernatural help, who do you turn to?

"Beyond that, atheism cannot be approved by God!

I'm in the UK where I would say most people are not openly religious. The most they might do publicly is go to church on Sundays.

Really, no one is interested in other people's religious beliefs. I have friends and acquaintances who are Christian, who are Jewish and who are, like me, atheists. So far as most of my friends and acquaintances go though, I have no idea of their religious beliefs, nor they mine.

It wouldn't really be appropriate to announce people that I am an atheist (unless it came into conversation or was relevant). I think it would offend some of my religious friends. I guess most of them know I am an atheist but wouldn't like me making a point of it for no reasons. It would be like a gay person or a vegan announcing the fact to a group of steak-eating heterosexuals - their response would be sort of like, “I don't want to know that at the moment”.

Most people just keep their religious views to themselves and we all get along fine,

A person can battle atheism and other sins using the rosary and fasting.

    In Saigon

    I haven't worked since 2000

    I've always been an atheist

Religion wasn't an issue in Australia

And it sure isn't an issue here where most people are Buddhists...

The wonderful thing about Buddhists is that they don't care whether you believe in anything or not and no one thinks about people going to hell...

    That is oh so christer-mooslim

It must suck to live and work where you're expected to 'be something'.

I have never had to admit to being an atheist at work, the subject of religion has never arisen. In Australia, where I live, no-one cares what your religion is or isn't provided you don't try to force it on anyone else.
