I hate my new job, but it pays extremely well.?
After leaving my previous job of 10years because of work related differences l landed myself a pretty sweet job as a building engineer at a hotel. I've been working there now for 6:months & officially a member of the Union. The perks & benefits are great. With over time & commission pay I average about $1200 a week after taxes. Sounds great on paper, but it isn't.
The work atmosphere is toxic. It's like highschool all over again with the gossip & he said she said. Most of the employees are old timers who are rude & miserable & look for recognitions because of their seniority. Management doesn't know it's left from it's right & things here are unorganized & a cluster phuck.
Not to mention the work environment is fast paced & intense especially when one engineer is on shift for a building that has over 1000 units plus dealing with other issues throughout the facility. The shop that I'm in has no man power so this adds to the stress/frustration. Lastly the guest can be rude ridiculous entitled pricks. Dealing with the guest bullsh!t is a given but all the other things I've mentioned makes this job sick to my stomach.
I'm 38 & I'm not getting any younger. I'm appreciative to high paying job that feeds my wife & I. I always count my blessings. But this place is a little ridiculous for me. Maybe it's because it's my first new job after working at another for 10 years & it's getting to me. I dunno what to do. Only been 6 months I feel it's too soon to be sick of this place.

My theory is no job is a party, some are better then others but they pay you to be there. Most "easy jobs" dont pay as well because anyone can do it, the better trained you are and the harder the job also means its way more expensive to replace you, so you are paid more to do that job. Personally, as long as its a 40 hour work week which makes a good work/life balance, and its good money, I wouldn't switch unless you know the pay and benefits will be similiar elsewhere. Of course where you live matters alot because commute time is a big deal. I lived in Iowa and the commute was awesome, pay was less but cost of living was less and no commute time wasted. I've also worked in big cities where each commute was 45 minutes one way, pay was better, but lots of commute time (thats like an extra work day once the week ends) and more expensive housing. Its a trade off and that stuff all matters.

It’s pretty common that the jobs offering the greatest income are often the worst. You’ll have to decide if the problems you’re faced with are worth dealing with considering the pay, or opt for a different one with less hassle and a drop in pay. Sometimes it’s worth it.

You are probably going to have to play the game of keeping on with your current job, while keeping your eyes open for another one.
If you can devote 1 hour per week to looking for new jobs, then I think that will help. If a great opportunity comes up, then take it! If it doesn't, then at least you know you are better off working than not-working right now.
When looking at jobs, of course job satisfaction is an important factor. Even a million bucks an hour can't always compensate for spending your life doing things that you get no fulfillment from, in an environment you do not like.
I mean, maybe it can for several hours... but not forever.
Set aside some time in your week to pursue new job options. I think that just knowing that you are doing that will make the working week easier to get through. Maybe you will come to accept or even possibly like this place... or maybe not, maybe not ever. But right now, you need to be open to taking other options.
