Have an essay prompt talking about how people fear the unknown but the outcome of facing it is always rewarding. Any ideas?

It makes me think about the show Amazing Race. Have you ever watched that? There are always people on there who say they have a fear of heights, but the incentive of a million dollar prize gets them to jump off cliffs or rappel down tall buildings. Afterwards, they're exhilarated that they faced their fear. You could also look up "neurosis" and read some ways that psychologists help people overcome them. A neurosis is a fear that can be overcome by doing the thing you're afraid of and finding out that nothing terrible happens. That's different from a phobia, which is completely irrational and not easy to overcome. I'm sure your teacher would like you to give a personal example- of a time when you were afraid of doing a presentation in front of the class, but did it, and felt relief from getting it over with, and happiness from finding out that it went pretty well. For me, it was when we moved before I started 7th grade. I remember walking to the bus stop the first day really afraid of having to meet new people. But I gathered courage and talked to them, and it was really ok! They were pretty friendly. So that made it easier for me to make new friends in situations later on- which was a good thing, because my parents moved two more times before I finished high school!
