Ive never canned meat before to make vegetable beef soup. Do you have to cook the meat before puttin it in the jars?

I noticed they just stuffed raw meat into the canner on the bottom with the veggies on the top and processed it. Others cooked the meat before putting it into the pressure canner to be processed. What is the proper way to can veggie beef soup?

To be on the safe side, cook the meat.

If you are going to can for 70 minutes or so (10 lb pressure), that will cook the meat.

follow the recipe you are using and do it that way.

Keep in mind that the act of canning is actually also cooking the meat.

the proper way to can it would be using a pressure canner for safety reasons because food like meats or soups are VERY low acid and have a huge chance of spoilage which is 1. dangerous and 2, wasted the food and hard work you put into it.

PLEASE do not can meats until you know what you are doing.

Check the Ball website for instructions. That is just one site there are plenty of others.

You do need a pressure cooker to properly can meats.
