No matter what i do sometimes my work pc takes ages to restart. i have tried a lot of fixes?
I use a pc at work that unlocks a door. when the system crashes we restart the pc. Most of the time the pc takes around 3 minutes to start. Sometimes it will restart in 15 seconds. because we dont have a copy of the software i cannot format it.
Specs:
i5 vista 32 business. 3.2ghz 240ssd 16gb ram.
things i have tried:
uninstalled all programs not needed.
stopped all startup programs not needed
stopped all processes not needed.
ran anti virus and malware checks
updated all driver
set the boot sequence to hd 1st.
Is their anyway to detect what the pc is doing whilst it is booting?
any real suggestions as to what might be the cause would be great

Hi. Glad to see the added post that You got the situation resolved with the 2 extra pieces of software running, it was most likely Win Defender trying to go online for updates.
Meantime, You said You didn't have a copy of the software - If You meant the Win install disc for Vista 32bit, it's easily available online as an ISO file You can burn to a DVDR without a regcode, & You'd use Your own license key that sets it to configure as Vista Business.
It can be found from most of the reputable software sites like download.com or sourceforge.com, & I believe even softpedia.com

It depends on the operating system. If it is windows, you have to buy every part of it. These parts can be easily corrupted by viruses. The best for you to change OS to Ubuntu. It is free and all soft wares are free. There is not much virus effect on these applications. So try to install ubuntu. It may take a few hours. You can copy all your data and programs on a cd and format it with Ubuntu. Down load it and install. Now many computers have network connections. Therefore, virus problems are more.

Check your bios for an option called "verbose," it will display all the drivers it loads and other info during boot.
I would also see if your bios has an update, that might help.
Some SSDs slow down over time (especially early ones). Google "enable trim ssd" and do that. You may need to migrate to a newer ssd, though. Specs vary pretty widely for ssds. Stick with Samsung IMHO.

it can be caused by some software you installed, also can be caused by the hibernation option, before shutting down , u should type taskmgr to see what programs are still running, it would take time to shut down because it has to close down all programs and services running in the background before it can shut down, if u still cant figure it out, run windows repair from your windows cd, if that doesnt fix it, just reinstall the damn thing, its less hassle.
