Acetate frame longevity?
I have a pair of Oliver Peoples acetate frames, no lenses in them yet. They got knocked into a sink full of soapy water (clean) by a friend watching my house. I believe they were immersed for three weeks. The frames *look* ok but did the soapy water dry out the acetate? Meaning will it be more prone to cracking now? Did the soapy bath shorten the lifespan of the frame? Thank you!

If the colour of the frame hasn't been affected then they should be fine. If it had been hot water , it may have been a different story.
When a plastic frame is drying out it gets a whitish film usually on the arms ( temples ) and on the top of the frame.

Acetate glasses are made from acetate film that is a specific type of plastic material, scientifically called cellulose acetate. The cellulose acetate is made from renewable products like wood pulp or cotton fibers. The chemical composition of acetate make them more versatile than rimless glasses. The cellulose acetate is made by forming layers of plastic into large blocks then carefully slicing individual parts, hand polishing, and finally assembling them into the frame part of your acetate glasses.
Acetate glasses offer the widest range for transparency rich colors and finishes. More complex colorations can be produced in acetate glasses versus rimless glasses. A variety of colors can be achieved in acetate glasses by layering several colors or transparence. Acetate glasses are very strong, lightweight, and flexible. The possibilities are truly endless when it comes to acetate glasses versus rimless glasses.
