It depends on the cause of the pain.  The first line of attack is to do whatever you can to eliminate the cause or to at least make the cause less severe if possible.  Many joint and muscle issues become manageable with various exercises and physical activity.  If this is the type of pain you have you might benefit from seeing a physical therapist to learn the exercises best for you.

Another way to deal with pain is to make yourself less aware of it.   This might be done by staying active in something that involves concentration, or learning mindfulness techniques.  People seem to be less aware of pain when they are in a good mood, so anything to improve your mood might help, including asking your doc about trying an antidepressant.

use herbs, instead ! where do you think big pharma gets their ideas from to make pills, plants, natures pharmacy, and Homeopathy has some fabulous non addicting remedies

for pain Hypericum AND Arnica are 2 that I know of, no side effects either, drugs are dangerous and I can do as good of a job with herbs. 20,000 secrets of tea by victoria zak was a recent great reco I got for herbs and amazon has some great books on the subject, and an alternative site [ earthclinic dot com ] has some decent remedies too, so you just need to widen your search and find new places.......

Friend I don't know if you realize this but taking prescription tablets especially prescription painkillers. Put you into an endless cycle of pain. The painkillers control your pain. But at the same time they add a chemical to your body that when it wears off causes your body to feel pain! And you're left with a vicious circle of pain. You need to ascertain what's causing your pain and get that condition under control so that you don't have pain. If you will tell me what kind of pain you are suffering from I can recommend it to you the proper food and spices and herbs to take away that pain and actually heal the condition.
