Question for Christians?

How do you justify bible verses that you are tackled with from atheists that describes the condoning of the murder and rape of innocent people? And if you're answer implies that the people murder under god are not innocent, then my question is would you commit the same act that god has commanded if you where in his shoes?

Thank you

My answer is that our sacred text is not literally true but should be interpreted allegorically where the typology justifies it, and that there is progressive revelation, so we gradually become more enlightened. If you think of the Bhagavad Gita or the concept of jihad, those appear to be violent unless they're interpreted figuratively, and the Bible is just the same.

There a lot more going on here than you (or anyone) might suspect. The people and tribes that are mentioned in the OT who opposed Israel also opposed the coming of the promised, Holy Messiah, who was the only hope of the human race's redemption from perpetual slavery to Satan, sin and death. As such, these "rogue tribes" were likely remnants from the days of Noah's Flood, who were destined to be destroyed by the flood, yet were somehow preserved - probably by the power of Satan, the devil. These same tribes were actually used as troops against the Israelites (and against God's plan of salvation) by the devil, who couldn't care less about human casualties of war. All Satan wanted to do was thwart God's plan for our salvation, which had been announced, thousands of years before. War is hell. The fact that God advised the Israelites on war strategy and tactics reflects the decrepit state of the world (dominated by Satan) at that time and the desperate battle that is still being waged on the earth and in the heavens, between the forces of good and evil.

It is not for me to justify or even rationalize what happened in the Old Testament.

As for your "If" I also will make no claim on that.

What I will do is to do my best at being kind and gentle to all.

I will attempt that because God told me to.

OT history simply reveals that God's enemies were (and are) in big trouble.

The Bible has the Death Sentence for Murderers and Rapists and lots of other Sins!

Read all of the 613 Commandments that GOD gave to Moses. Most people these days are pretending 603 of these commandments are not there.

Yet Jesus states in Matthew 5:17-20 that we are Required to keep obeying ALL of the 613 Commandments that GOD gave to Moses!

Nowhere in the Bible does God ever say to rape. Rape in the Bible is said to be punishable by the death penalty.

    .

There are societies in what became Israel, that before it was Israel, practiced satanic things like child sacrifice, and the Lord gave them 400 years to stop, and they refused to stop. So the Lord used Israel to destroy those societies.

    -------

Nobody can be good enough to avoid hell. The truth is that death leads to immediate heaven or hell, depending only on whether the person believed in Jesus for eternal life, or not.

    .

The truth is that Jesus loves you and wants to bless your life freely :) Most of all, Jesus wants you with Him forever, and not in hell. The truth is that every belief except one will lead to eternal torment in the lake of fire for every person. Because nothing pays for our sins except the death and blood of Jesus, the sacrifice of Jesus that is already accomplished by Him . Jesus loves you! The truth is that Jesus is God, and Jesus died on the cross to pay for all of our sins in full, and then Jesus resurrected from the dead. Nothing else pays for our sins, not works, not deeds, not religions. So the only way to heaven and to avoid hell, is by believing in Jesus for eternal life (John 6:47), without adding any of your own works (Romans 4:5). Believe in Jesus to take you to heaven, and you will be in heaven, no matter what, guaranteed. That easy, thanks to Jesus! Tell Jesus that you thank Him that you will be with Him in heaven when you die, because you believe in Jesus! It is too late to be saved, after death

We work best with specific Bible passages here. So feel free to share yours.

God never condones "murder and rape of innocent people."

The message in both testaments is the same -- that God blesses and saves his people - and curses and destroys the wicked.

God is the Judge of all. When the Judge commanded conquest and killing in the OT, it was always for the benefit of his chosen people. It was usually because those people would have conquered and killed the Hebrews. So those were acts of love for his people. And when the Judge commands a thing, no one can contest it. He has no judge. Surely not you and I.

The Bible does not condone murder (though the distinction between justified killing and murder may need to be explained to people who haven't taken the time to think their accusation through).

The Bible does NOT ever condone "rape" in any sense. There is one verse I know of where atheists like to read "rape" into the verse, but it's not actually in the text. But if they'd bother to read a few verses earlier, rape is explicitly addressed - i.e. warranting the death penalty.

    Never found it?

    Maybe you mean Islam?

    Lots of murder, rape, condoned?

    God is JUST.

But God warns people, for maybe 300 years?

    They refuse?

You tell your kid, don't borrow my car. They borrow it, ding it.

    Innocent?

Islam has NOTHING in common with YAHWEH.

You need to supply the verses. Nowhere I've read in the bible, God has condoned murder or rape.
