GENETICS QUESTION!If there were 6 bases?

If there were 6 bases in DNA instead of 4, and 30 amino acids instead of 20, how long would a codon need to be in order to specify an amino acid if the code were to remain unambiguous? Explain your answer....

    Two bases wide.

    Two bases would give you 6 * 6 = 36 possbilities. That's enough for your 30 amino acid possibilities, and you still have enough left over for some noncoding STOP codons, some noncoding control sequences, etc.
