Questions for Christians?

Does anyone truly believe that people who don't believe in a god is subject to eternal torture? If so do they believe they deserve that punishment? Also, how evil are non believers to people of faith?

You have three questions. The answer to the first two - yes, and I will explain. The third - I don’t view non-believers as evil.

Now, do people who don’t believe in God deserve punishment and are you subject to it? Yes, myself included. There is one difference between you and me. You don’t believe in God and I do. We still both deserve it because we’re fallen people. We can’t fix ourselves and we can’t undo the sometimes really awful things we have done. The difference is, I fully recognize this and choose to believe that even though I can’t fix all this, God can, and He does it freely. All He asks is that you turn away from the wrongs you do to yourself and others (sin) and believe that He loved you enough to come and undo it all for you with all cost to Himself, not you. I still make mistakes, I’m not perfect and I still should deserve eternally being without God, except that I choose to accept His grace and have turned away from the person I once was. Every person is born into this world and will mess up and each person comes to an age where they can recognize this, no matter how much they don’t want to. That is when the choice of one way or another comes into play. Non-believers aren’t evil but they are just as sinful and wretched as I am. You can choose to be happy with that and where you are now, or choose God’s way, which is to fix it all and give you hope and purpose. Either way, that is your choice to make. No one else can make it for you. We all live with the consequences (good or bad) with every choice we make.

We all are deserving of that punishment, believers or not. We have all sinned and are capable of evil and wrongdoing. The only difference with Christians is that they have been forgiven through Jesus Christ, because of who He is and what He has done.

We start from the assumption that atheism is a source of sins, therefore, we are not condemned for not believing, but we are condemned because we sin continuously against the laws of God!

So, if you do evil, you already know that out there there will be eternal suffering, and weeping!

With suffering you will not die, because your soul is immortal, and so it is, even for your new body, before the judgment of God.

To your last question no, I don't think people who don't have faith are evil. To you first question I would say a couple of things. First, it is actually debated in Christian circles whether Hell is eternal or not. Some authorities such as St Basil, St Augustine, Tertullian and others do confirm Hell is eternal. Others such as St Gregory of Nyssa, St Ambrose and St Maximos the confessor hold a universalist position. The belief that all will eventually be saved. For them Hell is the temporary punishment that is meant to purge a sinner of their sins. Gregory in the life of Moses compares it to the plagues of Egypt. The plagues were painful but after awhile they were lifted and abated.

Second, Hell is a choice, as weird as that might sound. C.S Lewis in his book the Great Divorce states that there are two types of people. Those who say to God "thy will be done". And those who God says to them "thy will be done". Hell is simply alienation from God. And God isn't going to force you into his presence. An interesting depiction of this is actually John Milton's epic Paradise Lost. The Devil and his angels are speaking after being expelled from Heaven. And the Devil actually makes the point that he doesn't want to be in Heaven. To be in Paradise for him is Hell because it means being in the presence of God, while being in Hell is Paradise for him because it means being out of his presence.

Let's be clear, torture, the way you mean, only works if there is a physical body to torture. When you die, your physical body is in the ground. If not cremated, you can go back years later and it's still there, albeit in poor shape.

What you call eternal torture, Christians call awareness without God. Most people think it is the flames that makes hell intolerable; it's not. It is the absence of Love.

    Yes.

I do believe that Satan is quite capable of and is sadistic enough to torment his infernomates for eternity.

If you don't think you will like Hell, accept Jesus' free gift of eternal life. But, if you do go to Hell, don't complain to God. Hell is separation from God. Blame the demon in charge.

Hell breaks God's heart. So much so that He sent Jesus to save us from Hell.

God offers an open invitation to Heaven.......some decline.

So it is not a matter of deserving but choice.

Separation from God is the ultimate disaster.

I have no right to judge an one as evil

I have never met anyone as bad as I may well have been but for the grace of God

"Believing in God" isn't specific enough, to avoid hell. You must believe in Jesus, to avoid hell

And we all deserve eternal torment. But nobody has to be there. The choice is yours. Believe in Jesus, and you won't be there.

Jesus speaks of eternal torment very often in the Bible. But you can avoid it.

Nobody can be good enough to avoid hell. The truth is that death leads to immediate heaven or hell, depending only on whether the person believed in Jesus for eternal life, or not.

    .

The truth is that Jesus loves you and wants to bless your life freely :) Most of all, Jesus wants you with Him forever, and not in hell. The truth is that every belief except one will lead to eternal torment in the lake of fire for every person. Because nothing pays for our sins except the death and blood of Jesus, the sacrifice of Jesus that is already accomplished by Him . Jesus loves you! The truth is that Jesus is God, and Jesus died on the cross to pay for all of our sins in full, and then Jesus resurrected from the dead. Nothing else pays for our sins, not works, not deeds, not religions. So the only way to heaven and to avoid hell, is by believing in Jesus for eternal life (John 6:47), without adding any of your own works (Romans 4:5). Believe in Jesus to take you to heaven, and you will be in heaven, no matter what, guaranteed. That easy, thanks to Jesus! Tell Jesus that you thank Him that you will be with Him in heaven when you die, because you believe in Jesus! It is too late to be saved, after death

  • Nope From Hell to Judgment day to The lake of fire and the second death...which is eternal

By the way the Term "Eternal Toment" does not appear in the bible

Now the bible says the Devil and the Flase Prophet and the beast will be tormented forever, but not people

revelation 10: The Devil who had led them astray was thrown into the pool of fire and sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet were. There they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
