Why won’t the government do anything about people on food stamps who don’t work and are choosing not to? ?

My state already took action against the freeloaders.

Able bodied,,able to work, you don't qualify. Must prove citizenship and residence.

Unemployment in in the basement here, help wanted signs over the state.

Caught scamming the system means prison and restitution.

They already do. If a person isn't disabled or aged (age 65 plus) then they are expected to work a certain # of hours a month. My housekeeper just received a notice stating that she must increase her work hours (I forget to what) if she wants to continue receiving food stamps. The thing is - if she increases her work hours then she will become ineligible for them. It is difficult for her to increase the hours she already works since she is constantly losing clients especially when an elderly person dies and the widow/widower can no longer afford her services. Housekeeping is one of the first things people let go when their income isn't sufficient.

No one can "choose" not to work anymore who is able-bodied and receive welfare. It would seem you don't keep up with the news. If you know of someone who isn't disabled who collects welfare who isn't working then you can always report them. However, they must constantly be proving that they are working.

they should make those people work (community service, pick produce) in exchange for the dollars they get

if they get $200mo require them to do 10 hours a month and it would be like a $20hr job. if that was required it would make them want to go get jobs because they wouldn't be happy with that.

The food stamp program is supposed to weed out those people, but the government is finding it too heartless to do so, because mental health issues are now getting a lot of attention all around the country.

40 million Americans are on the program, the government pays them off to avoid civil unrest. idiots will say shoot them all but 40 million hungry people would create havoc as this country has never seen before so they pay them off

Well, they're required to look for work if they're able, but if you're aware of somebody who's getting food stamps fraudulently you should report them to the proper authorities.
