what considers another a good support system?

SO i am recently going through the grief process of losing a close friend in a sudden and tragic death. Im sad and need people. Im learning who my "real friends" are in this process. How do you perceive one as a true support system?

I'm sorry for your loss. Please try to understand that someone's lack of ability to aid you through this does not mean that they are not a "real friend" at all. It only means they don't have the tools to help you in this particular way.

True friends are not always based on how much they can do for you.

The grief process is a marathon not a sprint and it's those who still care months after the loss who you can trust the most. This doesn't mean the short-timers are bad people as it often takes a personal loss for people to be able to truly understand. But life isn't static so you need to know when it's time for you to stop being the recipient of sympathy and to start offering it to others. Don't get so stuck on your own grief that you're unable to offer support to others when they need it.
