Back about 1965, there was a discussion amongst the black power/academic types as to what words were offensive and what was not. It was decided that the word "black" was the acceptable descriptive although it had problems. The "n" words were derogatory. Although ***** corresponded to caucasian, asian, Indian, etc. and was more academically correct. Eventually, a second revision was made (1970s??) where the word Africa-American, Native-American, Hispanic-American, were promoted to get further way from the 1965 choices. This came about with the Native American movement, and not the black. So, the word black still remains, but the word "Indian" is now offensive. And, today this identity crises continues as it is still pushed by the same groups. It is now up to 58 genders, according to Facebook. Zuckerberg hasn't decided about races yet.
