    That really depends. There are species of elves in my novel that exist only in my universe. I don't think there is a limit or any guidelines on elf species.

    According to Norse mythology there Dökkálfar (Dark Elves) and Ljósálfar (Light Elves). There does not seem to be much difference between the Dark Elves and the Dwarves - but who knows?

    That would depend on which sources you're recognising. Tolkien? Dungeons & Dragons? Elves aren't real, and many authors and artists have incorporated a number of different types of elves into their work.
