What's the difference between "castle" and "fort" ?

    A castle is where royalty resides whereas a fort is a military structure.

    A castle is where a rich person and family dwell (not royalty. Those live in palaces)

    A fort(ress) is for military purposes only

    English and French.

    Castle is an English word. Fort is derived from a French word.
