What kind of info does a DNA test give me. Is it worth it if I get one?

Depends on what kind of test it is.

if you mean the "ancestry"- type.. it will tell you where people who have taken the same test who have bundles of DNA (almost) identical to some of yours (you have 47) have been found. In most cases those will be your distant cousins. Some companies will allow them to contact you if you and they give the company permission for it.

Be aware that DNA cannot tell you exactly how distant a cousin is

The lower cost (under $100) compare your DNA with millions of others. They know where many ancestors came from through accumulated family trees so if your DNA matches you are probably from the same area. I had a test in 2016 where the major location was 85%. I just received an update to 100% since they now have a larger database.

The more expensive tests can possibly tell you of future medical problems.
