Hotel reasonably close to the Australian Zoo? ?

My husband and I are planning our honeymoon for mid April-early May next year. Our main stop is Steve Irwin's zoo in Beerwah. My brother, who is the one who gave us the trip, says that Beerwah hotels are too expensive, but Brisbane isn't so bad. Is there a good hotel that isn't too far from the zoo? We will probably be taking public transportation. Any insight would be helpful.
