A carpenter is a person whose job is making and repairing wooden things.
A builder is a person or a company that builds or repairs buildings.

A builder takes on all the responsibilities of building, such as plumbing, heating, masonry, drywall, electrical, roofing, insulation, and trim, either doing the work with a crew or subcontracting. A carpenter deals mainly with wood fabrication and joining methods in framing and trim.

DO the wordS carpenter and builder mean the same thing?
No. A carpenter works only with wood.

Not necessarily, Carpenters specialise in wood working, and Builders specialise in structural work [ making foundations for buildings, brick laying, roofing e.t.c.]
Both of these can be described as 'Manual' occupations.

I've never heard of 'builder' being used as someone's occupation. But they could mean the same thing or different things. A 'builder' might be a real estate developer or contractor. A carpenter is someone who does the actual work.
Around the country there are many old 19th century mansions open for tours. (And some 18th century ones!) If you take the tour, the guide will say 'This house was built by [name]'. What the guide means is that this person had the house designed by an architect and then paid craftsmen or a contractor to have the design executed. The person himself didn't build the house. George Washington 'built' Mount Vernon. Thomas Jefferson 'built' Monticello. etc.

No, builder is less specific. It could mean someone who finances building ( development) or a General Contractor. Carpenter is the name for a skilled worker in that trade.
