Potatoes in the fridge, yes or no!?

If you put potatoes in the fridge do they keep fresh longer, deteriorate or just sit there having a good time. For most things refrigerator cooling helps the keeping quality and freshness.

No, you should definitely keep them somewhere cool and dry, but don't keep them in the refrigerator. Putting potatoes in the refrigerator can increase the amount of sugar they contain, and lead to higher levels of a chemical called acrylamide when the potatoes are baked, fried or roasted at high temperatures.  Acrylamide exposure increases the risk of several types of cancer in the body. Acrylamide is converted to a compound called glycidamide, which causes mutations in and damage to DNA.

I'd rather throw out part of a $5 bag of potatoes than risk that!

I only buy a small amount of potatoes at a time, and yes, I have them in the fridge, in the veg draw, as I've only limited storage space in my little kitchen.

As long as you tear the bag [plastic] if their in one, so they dont sweat.

It depends of the season. When it's super hot in summer I put potatoes in the fridge, otherwise dark and dry place will do.

Cooked or raw? In wintertime we put raw spuds in the garage in a bag. If we're talking cooked here we always keep them in the fridge if we have cooked to many.

No the humidity in a refrigerator is too high for long term storage of potatoes. Fresh potatoes should be stored in a cool, DARK, DRY place.

Potatoes should be kept in a cool, dry place. Putting them in a refrigerator can actually change the sugar content which will change the taste.

I never put mine in the fridge. That's kinda weird!
