What kind of job is this in the entertainment industry?

In the show Famous in Love theres a character named jake, whos written a script and sells it to these agents, i dont know what kind of agents they are but i know theyre part of the actors. i wanna know is this a real job? where you write script and movie ideas. and you can get paid by these film producing companies, because id like to do that, how do i become one?
