Why do stars flash different colors at night?

Sometime in November my friend and I drove to a secluded beach, in the middle of nowhere, at like 11pm. Since there was no sign of life around, no light, nothing, you could literally look up and see so many more stars than you usually would, but they seemed to like flash every single color, from red to yellow to blue and green. It was so cool

If you were on the Space Station the stars would not flash colors.

What your seeing is the light from the stars passing though the Earth's air and being refracted which causes the color to appear to change.  It is the Earth's Air.

Exoplanets in that star system are passing in front of the star and temporarily blocking some of the light.

Earth's turbulent atmosphere causes stellar scintillation.

    Otherwise known as twinkle.
