Should I get this toyota camry?

19 years old, from 2002, but the interior looks practically brand new. There's no rust on the body, a dent in the bumper with some scratches, but thats about it. The post said it only had 40k miles, which is incredible low, but then I saw an info sheet the owner provided, and it said "Last reported mileage: 88". Im curious as to what this means. Was the odometer tempered with and the car actually has 88k miles? Or am I not understanding the "Last reported mileage" part. I took it for a test drive, and it also drove pretty well. The guy is selling it for $5500. Rip-off, or worth it?

It might be a great car, but there's no way I would spend that kind of money on a car that old, regardless of mileage.

40K or 88k are both very low for a 2002 model. Not sure I would trust either without talking to the prior owner.  You need to assume it has 200k miles. Which means its not worth $3500 let alone $5500.

Even if it only has 40,000 miles on the odometer it is not worth $5,500. The retail value from a dealer would be around $5,200. The value from a private seller would be around $3,500. If ti actually has 88,000 mile deduct $1,000 from those values. If you find out that is does only have 40,000 miles then offer $4,000 and be prepared to walk away.

That car probably has 160k plus on it. It's not worth more than 3500

Spend a few bucks and get one of those reports that give you the information on a car, can't remember the names of the companies but they only charge about $10. You will need the car's VIN. If he is lying about the mileage I would not get it as who knows what else he is lying about. Also ask to see the title as it may show the mileage when it was last purchased. Ensure the vin on the title is the same on the car.

That's a lot of money for such an old car.
