So, I’m heading down to NJ tomorrow to drop my sister off, as she wants to live with my Aunt. I had totaled my car and am currently looking for a new one. Well, I found a really nice one down in NJ. It’s an 1 hour away from where we will be staying as the drive will be 10 hours. I’m coming from KY. My question is though, am I able to drive it back when we head back this way to KY. I planned on checking it out. Yes, I have seen pictures online and have talked to the owner. And if I was to want it, I would of added insurance, to at least been insured on the way back. Anything could happen in those 10 hours coming back and just want to be safe, even though I don’t expect anything to happen (as anyone would). So, is it possible to buy it in NJ, have the title put in my name, car insured and then drive it back? I know you can buy out of state but this will be almost 750 miles out of state and was curious. 750 mies is no different to 10feet over the border. Out of state is out of state.
When you inform your insurance company be sure to give a time you want to be insured from, say 10am. At 10.01 you're insured.

Some states, mine, gives you 10+ days to drive a newly bought car without a tag as long as you have the paperwork. Other states are not so easy.

Id try to find a car closer to home.

Can you really trust a newly bought car 750 miles?  Maybe if it's only 2-4 years old.

You can't drive it without license plates.
In NJ once the car is sold you surrender your license plates to the MVC.

Do not buy a used car from NY or NJ.  The undercarriage is likely rusted out.

Pretty stupid to be asking the YA community about this.  State laws vary.  Ask your insurance agent.
