The damage was done in showing that Iranian missiles are capable of penetrating Thaad interception, this will significantly impact their deployment world wide if they cannot be relied on to work in when needed. The South Koreans and Japanese will be very angry as they depend on the Thaad the system to defend against NK projectiles.

The real conspiracy is this:

Iraq was the mediator for Iran/Saudi communication in an attempt to deescalate over the Saudi oil field attack. The US requested Iraq also negotiate an end to the embassy siege, Soleimani was there as a senior Iranian official operating in a diplomatic capacity, his transport had diplomatic plates. The US Gov lured him to Baghdad for the embassy talks and killed him on the runway of a civilian airport for crimes not yet disclosed. This is a genuine act of terror if it had been an american killed on that airfield it would be described as state sponsored terror. its this double standard that sets the world against America on the subject of the middle east.

I think their end goal was getting Trump to build a five-star resort in Tehran, tax free. Trump even got the intelligence community to determine the 52 cultural sites for the complimentary bus tour.

So Russia got Trump into office in the first place, but now Trump's in danger of losing the upcoming re-election.  A war-time president is more likely to be re-elected, so Russia turns to their allies in Iran and they decide to martyr this general so that Trump can have his war and get re-elected.  Then, directly following the election, Trump will suddenly negotiate peace.

Either that or Trump is just doing exactly what he said would happen in 2011.

They're just trying to save face with their own people and not get into a serious conflict. They know America's just trying to start another war, cos that's what they do.
