Are  DC switch gear systems  used all over the world particularly for controls in substations or there are AC systems also?Why DC is used?

    Many control systems are low voltage DC for safety. They are easier to maintain and the repair people do not need to be licensed.

    It is strictly a matter of what the facility is and what its requirements are.

    DC switch gear systems are used only when high voltage DC has to be switched. HVDC is very high, in the MV and is used only to carry power long distances. Substations and lower voltage systems are all AC, so AC switch systems are used. 

    Unless you mean switch gear systems with DC control voltages?
