fuel level gauge is usually located on the fuel tank.  It has NOTHING to do with the fuel pump.  Start at the fuse box and work your way backwards(assume gauge is good so go to connections ON TOP OF THE FUEL TANK.  Take them off and put them on again.  Sometimes that is all that is needed to make it work is a breaking of the oxide coating.  Moving it does that.  Same could hold true for fuse. Remove it and reinsert it. Could be that simple.

I hate working any harder than I have to.

Sounds like you boogered up the sending unit inside the gas tank OR the locking ring on the gas tank isn't making metal to metal contact. A lot of sending units use the gas tank as a ground and the contact begins with the locking ring. You can ground the sending unit to the body or frame with a wire if you want to drop the tank again.

Could the line be clogged? YES! Fuel filter clogged? The line is kinked, bad fuse, bad wire bad ground connection. There are many reason a new fuel pump may not work, I have seen one that a mechanic put on backward. ITDOES HAPPEN!

Had the same problem when I had my rusted gas tank and float/level sensor replaced. The new sensor unit was bad, and the gauge didn't work. Put in the old sensor unit, and it's been working fine.

What "gauge"? The feul Level? It shouldn't  be affected. If so, you disturbed sender  and its wires when U replaced pump----go back to it and see.

If you have a fuel Pressure gauge, it should read what 15 PSI? Even if not, if car runs ok, it is minor to repair it later.  If you healer Pump And it shuts Off a few seconds after you turn on ignition, probably OK., Only bad if you hear nothing or it doesn't stop, Look for Fuel Leak !

Ground the wire for the fuel gauge at the pump harness connector. Th gauge should read full when you do that. If it worked before you changed the pump you likely messed up the sending unit on the pump assembly.

Does the car start and run normally?  Then it's not a problem with the pump. It's an issue with either the gauge, its wiring or the sensor in the tank.  Did you dislodge some wiring when doing the pump?

Is the car not starting?  Disconnect the connector at the fuel pump and connect a headlight bulb to the connector.  You have to know the correct power and ground wires at the connector.  Check if the headlight bulb lights up when you try to start.  Bulb lights up, you have a bad fuel pump.

Bulb does not light, there is an electrical problem.  Check for power and ground with a test light at the connector while cranking.  No power, check for a bad fuel pump fuse and a bad fuel pump relay.

Without looking at it how can anybody tell what is wrong with it?
