plus the same reason people like lotteries...it makes a few people insanely rich

Because if you keep your priorities straight and work, you can go as far as you want. I'm middle class, in my time working I earned two full retirements with two 401k's support. I make in retirement 2 1/2 times the average salary for my state. Social Security will be for my new Harley and Bass boat payments and two vacations a year for me & wife......

Belief in ruling class propaganda, plus lies about what the alternative might be (a classless stateless society based on production for use).

Pride in ownership. A sense of personal achievement and independence.
