Wall board and plaster walls are mostly air, radio waves go through.

Metal walls (appliances, shipping containers) are very   dense, will reflect radio waves.  Not sure about uncoated glass, but some metal coated glass will block radio.

The same way radio waves travel through walls.  Though radio waves are in the mega hz bands and wifi is up around 2.4 ghz.
