    Actually it one way of sterilising and cauterising in one go

    Gunpowder can be a bit too severe because although It will cauterise & seal the wound it will also burn away good flesh to a 3º burn level.

    You're better off heating up a poker in the fireplace to a white heat & searing your wound back to health that way
