Are tent trailers a good option? ?

My husband and I do a lot of camping. How well do they hold up in wind and rainstorms? We enjoy camping in the Unitas. Yet, it seems to rain a fair amount there. Any other pros and cons?

While there was a lot of love about my pop up camper, a

    things I didn't like were:

    Really easy to break into.

    No noise insulation.

    Won't protect you from bears.

Can't sit with your back supported by the fabric walls the way you can sit with your back against the wall in a "hard" trailer.

Setting up and taking down is a lot more bothersome. In my motor home I just park anywhere and my "house" is right there for me to prepare food, use the bathroom, take a nap, change clothes. With the pop-up, I was stuck in the car until I did some pretty extensive set up. No option for "park, sleep, leave" with no set up, so no overnighting for free at a WalMart or Elks Lodge.

If you think the difference in price makes up for those things, that maybe a pop up is a better choice for you. But I like my small motor home much better than I liked my pop up, even though they're comparable in size and features.

I camped for years with a pop up camper. I suppose that is what you call a tent trailer.

It had a tent for a top but the rest was solid. I really enjoyed camping in it. Much more

fun than a tent but cheaper than a trailer. We used it for many years until we could

not camp anymore due to health restrictions. We put a piece of a waterproof material

over the canvas part to keep the top free of bird droppings and tree sap. Also helped

    with the waterproofing.

They are wonderful, until they are too small, becouse they eventually will be, seems to be the way it works. Hell of a lot better then a tent, especially if you set the tent up in an area that floods, wake up with everything floating around and wet and such, not fun. Actually it is fun, looking back.
