What type of snake is this?
I found a snake in my yard. It was about the diameter of a worm and six or seven inches long. It’s top side was a light brown color and it’s underside was a cream color. It’s head pointed slightly. I live in central Mississippi.

Might be a worm or an earth snake but my guess would be a young brown snake, Storeria dekayi.

Almost certainly not a venomous snake. It is most likely a juvenile of some small snake that is harmless. Probably last year's litter. Juveniles tend to be active earlier than adults since they have not eaten much since they were born last season. Their small bodies also allow them to warm up quickly by basking. Vipers (copperhead, cottonmouth and rattlesnake) have thick and short bodies. The coral snake is slender but banded black, red and yellow. Your snake does not match any of these venomous snakes.
