What job titles become honorifics for life?Examples are Judge and Ambassador, not President or Vice President but possibly Speaker?

    A President or Vice President of the USA is referred to with their title even after they leave office.  It is the same for the Secretaries of the USA's departments of government, such as Secretary of Defense.

    Doctor, counselor, professor, general, captain.

    Actually, President is generally treated as a lifelong title.

    But aside from that - whatever military rank you have when you retire is yours for life.  Also, Doctor, Professor, Counsellor (the address for lawyers) are all lifelong.
