Why aren't there more than 60 strains of influenza (if its thousands of years old) ?

I'm talking about strains of influenza, and NOT the 4 'types' (A, B, C & D).

i read somewhere that there are about 60 strains, and that there are new variants popping up every few years.

if that's the case, why are there only 60 strains ?  surely there would be hundreds or thousands ??   Flu has been around for thousands of years, so surely there will be much more than just 60 strains ?   (especially if there are new variations popping up every few years)

EXTRA QUESTION:

How many strains of coronavirus are there ?

is it true that coronavirus has been around for only 60 years? or is it way earlier than this ?

Onlyv60 strains have survived is why. The others hsve gone extinct. It mutates pretty rapidly as well. Survival of the fittest. Proof that evolution really DOES happen.
