1 AnswerLaw & Ethics11 months agoMaths probability: Similar Music chords in Songs?
There are 7 notes in a musical scale.
A great majority of songs use either the Major or Minor variations of these chords.
So this is a total of 14 possible chords.
On top of this, it is common to play any of these 14 chords as a '7th'. (ie: E7 or Em7)
So now we have 28 chord possibilities to choose from.
Timing and Rhythm aside, How can I work out the probability of any songs containing the same progression of chords ?
example:
What is the probability of the same 4 chords being in a row ? and how would I work it out?
Can I easily use this same logic for 5 chords in a row?
Thank you ;)
3 AnswersMathematics11 months agoWhy aren't there more than 60 strains of influenza (if its thousands of years old) ?
I'm talking about strains of influenza, and NOT the 4 'types' (A, B, C & D).
i read somewhere that there are about 60 strains, and that there are new variants popping up every few years.
if that's the case, why are there only 60 strains ? surely there would be hundreds or thousands ?? Flu has been around for thousands of years, so surely there will be much more than just 60 strains ? (especially if there are new variations popping up every few years)
EXTRA QUESTION:
How many strains of coronavirus are there ?
is it true that coronavirus has been around for only 60 years? or is it way earlier than this ?
1 AnswerMedicine1 year agoWhy do catholic priests (sexual abuse cases) get such low jail time; if any at all ?
I dont understand why people always talk about the pope not doing anything about it.
This is a police matter. Surely the police press charges and it is nothing to do with the church ?
looking at the long long list of abuse cases in the catholic church, MOST PRIESTS GET A COUPLE OF YEARS JAIL FOR ABUSING CHILDREN (pedophilia).
But someone like Harvey Weinstein gets 23 years in Jail for abusing Adult women!!
Surley abusing multiple children is far worse than what Harvey Weinstein did.
Do why do these priests get such a low jail term ?
(i note that an occasional few do get a proper sentence, but on the whole, MOST of them get away with 1 to 3 years).
WHY IS THIS ?
and how does a priest get TRANSFERRED to avoid prosecution; and why dont the Police just press charges ?
ARE THE POLICE SOMEHOW NOT ALLOWED TO PROSECUTE A PRIEST WITHOUT THE CHURCHES PERMISSION? (coz, if so, that sounds illegal)
5 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 year agoAmerican Recipe grammar: 'add 1 1/4 teaspoons' ?
in the recipe it says: "add 1 1/4 teaspoons"
Does this mean:
One and a quarter teaspoons?
or,
Quarter of a teaspoon?
Sorry, but I get really confused with American ways of saying fractions.
ie: (one half hour, is this 30 or 90 minutes ??)
is there a reason Americans do not say 'Half an Hour', instead of one half hour ?
Surely this avoids confusion ?

1 AnswerBiology1 year agoShanghai is on the same line of latitude as Cairo, Texas and San Diego. Why does it have completely different Climate ?
Shanghai gets humid hottish summers, (but not terribly hot), and uneventful cold winters.
Spring and Autumn are also not particularly hot (when compared to Cairo or San Diego, etc).
So why would Shanghai not have this all-year round hot climate ?
4 AnswersGlobal Warming1 year agoDid I manipulate currency price on my trading platform ? here is what i did... (please tell me what it is)?
A few years ago (on a crypto-currency trading platform) I had a few thousand dollars of currency.
On the platform i was using, you can see every single trade in 'real time'.
The crypto market crashed, and so I started selling my curency.
BUT, as the price was falling and falling,, I had the idea to start buying small amounts of coins at a price slightly ABOVE the market value. so it gave the impression on the 'real time' screen that the prices were maybe going UP again.
I did many many many small trades in a row (for several minutes) - each trade just 1 or 2 dollars.
I noticed that the price started going back up again.
I assume that the few hundred (or few thousand) people on my particular platform saw the currency was selling higher and higher prices, so they all started jumping in on the bandwagon.
then I pushed the currency up to a good enough price, and then was able to sell the rest of my currency at a much better value.
then I watched and the price fell again (after I sold out).
So, basically... did I (on a small scale) manage to push up and manipulate the currency price ?
is that how the big boys do it with their millions of pounds ? did I stumble on some sort of illegal trading method ?PS: I want to know.. It seemed to do the trick for me (on the small trading platform that I was using). But, how would this work on a much larger trading platform ?

2 AnswersOther - General Health Care2 years agoWhy do Thai people have to bow LOWER than the King ? (I thought King Chulalongkorn abolished it 100+ years ago) ?
In the story 'The King & I' (Anna & the King), King Chulalongkorn is the 'son' who made Thailand more westernised.
He abolished Bowing Low. (over 100 years ago).
But Thai Poeple currently are forced to remain lower posture than the King.
Which Thai King brought it back ?? and Why ??
2 AnswersRoyalty2 years agois this correct: Prince Charles is King of England the exact second that the queen dies ?
And Camilla is automatically Queen at the same second that Queen Elizabeth dies ?
And the corronation is merely a ceremony, but has nothing to do with the fact that Prince Charles may already have been king for many months.
Is this all correct ?
16 AnswersRoyalty2 years agoI M CONFUSED! Reheating food (and rice) twice?
So much conflicting info online:
ie:
its safe to eat rice çold or hot the next day (if it was refrigerated quickly).
but its not ok to heat it twice.
if I refrigerate rice after cooking it,, and then heat it for breakfast,, and then put straight back in fridge and heat again for lunch.
the total time at room temperature was just about 30 mins.
Why all the fuss ?
I appreciate it takes maybe another 40 mins to cool down (in the fridge),
but this is isn t exactly far over the 2 hour limit.

Seems like the CEO and Directors are sifting money out of the company and into their pockets (indirectly).

3 AnswersLaw & Ethics2 years agoDo microscopic metal shards enter our food when we cut it with a knife ? ie: Why do knives go blunt ?
if a knife goes blunt, then it would mean the metal is being brushed off (to make it wear down).
so, I am guessing that tiny fragments of metal are going into our food while we cut.
Is there any danger in this ?
otherwise, If I am not correct, where is the metal going to make a knife blunt ?

I'm wondering, What type of person says this? Do stock brokers and Business people use it ?
or is it a Red-Neck thing? or is it mostly used by lower social Economic classes ? or is it specific to certain 'types' of people?
