Why are their so many grammar freaks online?

Wouldn't you like someone to help you for free so that when you write a letter to apply for a job, your letter won't have so many mistakes that the boss will stop reading it and toss it?

A simple correction is a courtesy, and should not be  viewed as bashing. Don't take it so personally. People who value good communication want to help those who don't know the rules or don't understand why good grammar is important for good communication.  By the way, calling other posters "freaks" is just pure rudeness.

Because they themselves or the school system failed them and much confusion can happen with misspelled words. There is a big difference (maybe life and death) between telling your mechanic to fix your breaks vs fix your brakes.  P S THERE

A couple of reasons. People care about language - people have rioted over foreigners not being able to speak properly. Then there are people who need to feel superior. Either way, it's not a trivial issue.

Why are there so many people that cannot spell anymore?
