Bass guitar players tips?

I'm new to base and I cannot read notes for anything. But I can understand the numbers part. When I look up sheet music Its not as good as me just listening to the song and making my own rythm. I want to learn to read music. But listening to the song and playing I can do much better than looking at sheet music. Any help

Reading music is actually simple, especially for the bass.  A note on the bottom line of the bass clef, for example, is always G.  On the piano, it would be the second G below middle C.  Bass players might play it an octave lower.  Whether it's a quarter note, half note, eighth note, or whatever, it's still G.   A few lessons from a teacher would be beneficial.

Sheet music will be no use to you at all if you can't read music. I don't know what you mean by “the numbers part” of playing bass but if you can play by ear then that's a valuable skill to have and one that is harder to learn than learning to read

music. Learning to read for bass is easier than for some instruments as you only have one clef to learn and most of the time you'll only be reading and playing one note at a time. To me, it's an important part of playing most instruments.

A good teacher would be best but at this time that might be impossible to arrange. I'm sure there are some good sites on the internet that would help and, of course, just learning where the notes are on bass is a good start.
