I seldom think of Edward I. He is not remembered well by the Scots and was known as Malleus Scotorum, the Hammer of the Scots. That was after he sorted out the Welsh. He also kicked all the Jews out of England in 1290 and stole their money. In that he just followed the example set by Phillip II of France in 1182, John I, Duke of Brittany in 1239 and Louis IX of France in the 1240s. Mel Gibson's portrayals of Edward I and Edward II in "Braveheart" were neither flattering nor accurate but then Gibson got most of the history wrong in that movie.
