if someone has a “great life”, can they suffer from depression?

it’s very common to hear the phrase “you can’t have depression, you have a perfect life. you don’t know what struggle is”. what are your opinions on this?

Of course they can be depressed. Depression is an internal problem,

    often independent of life circumstances.

Sounds like bullsh it to me. What these shallow people try to tell those who are depressed. Depression is something that everybody experiences at times in their life. Nobody’s life is “perfect” enough that they cannot suffer from it.

It makes no distinction between people who are wealthy and people who are not. It makes no distinctions regarding race, gender or age or anything for that matter.

And psychiatrists will try to tell you that depression is a sign of “mental illness” so they can put you on drugs. It’s not “mental illness”.

It’s part of the human condition. And therefore normal. If you’re human.

But that’s how  psychiatrists make a living. By putting normal people that they’ve managed to brainwash into thinking they’re “mentally ill” on neurotoxic “Pig” Pharma drugs and/or giving them electroshock “treatments” which then ruin their lives instead of making them feel better.

So definitely don’t listen to shallow, ignorant people or psychiatrists either. Listen to your own inner wisdom, Kayleen.

Yes, indeed,,, it's just like a stroke,, silent killer.  People who are depressed are very good as pretending they are fine.. things are not always as great as it look. No matter how great a life you have, seek help if needed,, people don't take depression as a serious illness.  YOUR MENTAL HEALTH IS IMPORTANT.

No one has it all. Sadly, it’s not possible in the world we live in today but we are promised a better future under a heavenly kingdom with perfect rulership right here on earth. In the Bible at Daniel 7:13,14 we read “I kept watching in the visions of the night, and look! with the clouds of the heavens, someone like a son of man was coming; and he gained access to the Ancient of Days, and they brought him up close before that One. 14 And to him there were given rulership, honor, and a kingdom, that the peoples, nations, and language groups should all serve him. His rulership is an everlasting rulership that will not pass away, and his kingdom will not be destroyed.”. So we have to hang on a little while longer as Psalms 37:10 tells us “Just a little while longer and the wicked will be no more; you will look at where they were and they will not be there. But the meek will possess the earth, and they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace”.

If you don’t have a Bible of your own you can read it online at www.jw.org. Along with many other publications and videos on this very subject and many many more. I hope you find what you are looking for.

I've had someone say this to me but depression is very misunderstood. You can have everything you've ever wanted in life and appear to be living the perfect life and still have depression. It's caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain so lifestyle has very little to do with it.

it apparently makes sense- on one hand

it ISN'T  necessarily the truth / the way it is - in every specific human setting- on the other hand.

more than once- even with / in spite of one's ''great life'' - there  is something called '' endogenic( from inside) depression'' - stemming from some kind of chemical imbalance within one's brain - with no/ apparently no '' trigger  event''/ trauma ...and - yet- capable  to make one's life  really miserable....

in this setting the wise words of the late English philosopher John Stuart Mill  apply:'' the human soul is the one capable to turn hell into heaven and the  other way round- as well''

Depression is a matter of the chemicals your brain produces. Many people with "perfect lives" have suffered from depression. Most recently, Anthony Bourdain, who had a life that many people would LOVE to have, traveling around the world, making tv shows, killed himself. He'd suffered from depression for a long time. There are medical treatments that can help most people with clinical depression.

Depression and mental health does not discriminate. People from all walks of life, with a variety of experiences, different family dynamics/socioeconomic structures/lifestyles/education/careers can and do suffer with depression. Remember, one person's perception of another is not necessarily the reality/truth. Many people create a facade so they can interact with their world every day, and yet the darkness behind the happy mask can be bleak and powerful and endless. And definition of a 'great life' is not automatically going to be the same for everyone.

Depression doesn't discriminate. People with "perfect lives" do get depression too.
