Any fans of hip hop or pop music?

I have never been into hip hop or pop, so I cannot see why it is so widely appreciated. I would like to know what specific faucets of the genres you find to be the most desireable, so I can further my understanding of the genre and as music as a whole.

Nobody is wrong for listening to what they enjoy, I am not saying you are bad because we do not share tastes, I am simply trying to enjoy it better myself and perhaps translate the knowledge to other genres of music

Tell me, what makes hip hop and pop great?

Thank you for the help!

I hate both hip-hop and pop, all of it.

Sorry, can’t help you.  It is my choice not to listen to either of those genres.

I prefer rock, but I do like some hip hop and pop music. I like the pop/hip-hop songs that I like for the same reasons that I like the rock songs that I like: a voice or voices that I enjoy listening to, instruments and beat that I enjoy listening to, and lyrics that I connect to. My favorites are Melanie Martinez, Ellie Goulding, and M.I.A. I also have an unofficial plan to try out more classic hip-hop such as Public Enemy and NWA. And also to seek out non-popular hip-hop music.

I like hip hop because its catchy. it usually consists of rhythmic beats with rhythmic poetry on top which i like. it just all comes together nice and has a nice aesthetic

I like some pop, and some hip hop, mainly if it has a good background beat, I'm mostly into trance so a good beat is all I need. Example is Coldplay, people aren't listening for the lyrics but for the pianos and stuff, it's a nice sound that encourages introspection for me.
