No, there was no "B.C" or "Washington" then... Though when they DID become territories, there was something called "the Pig War" that established a line at 49 degrees - everything NORTH of there would be in Canada, and everything SOUTH of there would be the US. And there is a place there that is in the US (Point Roberts), but the only way to get there from the rest of the US is to drive through B.C., which leads to all sorts of... INTERESTING... things, like children playing on sports teams based in B.C., and even US children going to B.C. schools. So, it hit them rather hard when passports became a prerequisite to re-enter the US.
