We’re jews really enslaved by the Egyptians and Romans?

Quick history question were Jewish people really enslaved by the Egyptians and Romans I’m asking because growing up in church I was always told and taught that they were enslaved by them and never questioned it because it says it in the bible they were but now I’m really interested to know if this is 100% true and if that really did happen in history and is something they suffered through like during the holocaust?
