Are garbage disposals the same?

If I am replacing the garbage disposal in my kitchen sink can I replace it with any type or just the type it currently has?

They all fit the same size hole in the sink So you can get which ever brand you want There standard openings the only difference will be the motor ,body shape The inlet to the disposer is a standard size and most popular brands will all fit the same sink

They are not all the same, but MOST attach to the sink using compatible brackets. WORST CASE, you would have to replace the existing mounting bracket with the one that comes with the replacement unit. The drain hole in the sink is either the standard size, or requires an adapter to fit any normal plumbing.

Different brands and power levels will all fit the same, so when we replaced ours a couple years ago, we looked at reviews and our actual needs before choosing. We ended up getting one with a more powerful motor than the one that had broken.
