How to get rid of oil based stain strong odor.?
I stained wood with oil basted stain and after a week it smells really strong and makes me sick. I left it outside for a week and the odor doesn't go away. Is the odor ever going to go away. Will painting the wood get rid of the odor.

The odor is called VOC's, volatile organic compounds, and could include toxics such as benzene, formaldehyde, xylene and arsenic. You needed to look for low VOC or low odor stains. You can wait, and it could be weeks more. You could try to strip it and re-stain or paint. This could be expensive and difficult. You could try to seal it with an encapsulating sealer. Two coats will be needed and may still not completely eliminate the wood stain odor. This works best if the stained wood can dry a least a month before the encapsulating sealer is used. Otherwise, the new sealer could re-hydrate the wood and worsen the problem. A latex paint may bubble and peel, and oil based paint mix and dissolve the stain. You may have used a stain designed for outdoor use.
You can buy sealant, a surface prep and paint it, or possibly a varnish.
