When should I call my stepmom “mom”?

Ok, so the low down is that I was 11 when my mom died and 12 when my dad remarried my stepmom. Right now I’m 15 and I’ve called her by her first name since I was 11. I don’t really view her as a mother figure because she values her own daughter over me and my siblings (which is understandable) and she really just ignores me half the time. She wants me to call her mom but I don’t think I will ever be ready to. She also thinks that me not calling her mom inhibits my sister from calling her mom so that just adds a whole other level to this choice. I feel like I should call her mom but I really don’t want to, I just want to graduate and get out of this house so I can live my life.

Update:

Also, I don’t hate my stepmom. She’s nice sometimes but she’s sorta like a moody teenager and idk when she loves me or when she just wants me to get out of her life. Honestly my life is just a side character in my stepmom and stepsisters life... so yeah

That is tough. I think if you don't want to and if she hasn't done anything to deserve being called mom, you shouldn't. Im really sorry you have to go through that, but don't give into something you don't want to do. If she truly valued you, she wouldn't force you to do something you don't want to. Hope this helps 😊. also, i wish you the best in going to college! From experience, you should definitely start applying for scholarships now ! The more money you can get the better, even if you are a top student you can never be too safe ! Good luck !

You're not obligated to call her "mom." Ask your dad to tell her to stop binging it up.
