Found a nice place to rent in Cabbagetown on a very nice street. But walking to & from the place, I've never encountered so many bums in one?

My opinion is there are lots of unemployed bums in downtown Tronno, and Cabbagetown is right next door to downtown Tronno.  And my opinion is right.

You can't have it both ways, kid.  If you live in the core of T.O., you're going to have high crime and unemployed guys.  If you live on the outskirts of Dorking, you're going to have a 30km drive to the nearest coffee shop.  If you move to Windsor, you're going to smell Detroit.  If you move to Creemore, you won't have reliable (or any) public transit.  Because you just can't have it both ways.

You sound like the kind of person who contacts a travel agency and tells them you want to visit a completely deserted island with fantastic night life.

Maybe stop being so judgemental of people? You have no idea why a person is homless to begin with, so stop acting like YOU are above people who are homeless! You say you are going to rent a house/apartment right? All it would take is for you to fail to pay 1 month of rent, and suddenly you will find yourself living on the street, keep that in mind before judging others.

There are many reasons people are homeless:

- Mental health issues

- Women who flee from domestic violence but can't afford a place to live

- They may have had a solid job, but gotten laid off (through no fault of their own), and because they got evicted, they find themselves on the street.

Let me be brutally honest here, nobody chooses to be homeless, nobody gets up in the morning and says "oh hey, I will live on the streets", it does not work thay way bud! My advice would be go volunteer at a soup kitchen or homeless shelter, this way you get learn a lot about the people you like to call "bums", and I gurantee you, you will gain a lot of life presepctive and empathy.

I spent a year volunteering at a soup kitchen, and the majority of the clients were people who were homeless: I can tell you that they were some of the nicest people I have ever met, they had a lot of interesting stories to tell, none of them caused any trouble when they came in for a meal. They are no different than you or I, they are merely people who are down on their luck and trying to find their way back to being stable.

Karmas a funny thing bud, hope it doesn't find you when you least expect it.
