When did so many people become so desperate for attention?

I have these next door neighbors for many years that have tried every trick in the book to be social with me but no one likes them as they are so desperate but very mean. Ive had 4 years of ignoring them but lately they seem to be around more. The man seems like a bored housewife and the woman is dilisonal that we are friends just cause they know me as years ago the building had group dinners. They take a Hello as a invitation that we are best friends.
