About tetanus shot...?

I'm leaning away from getting it... According to the current AMA standards, will I be putting others in danger if I don't have this? Or only myself if I get cut with something rusty? My ma said to get it only if I plan on going to someplace where a trip to a hospital won't be easy, 3rd World Country, maybe... Or long hiking trip, though if I have my phone and it's in the United States... Should be fine?

You should get it if you are a highly active person. If you do carpentry, if you do sports. If you like walking barefoot outside. Because if you get a deep cut, then it's possible to get tetanus. It's not very common, it's just that it's catastrophic if you did. Ten percent of people who get it die from it, and it can take months to recover. It affects your nervous system, and makes victims clinch their jaws due to the neurotoxin affecting their muscles.

Why not make your chances of getting it zero percent, with a vaccine??

TETANUS is a disease caused by a toxin produced by the bacterium CLOSTRIDIUM tetani. aif you feel you must get the vaccine then do so however its not caused from rust....

Spores of clostridium tetani can live for years in soil and animal feces.

    It's better safe than sorry.

I remember walking through the backyard of my friend's house when I was 7 years old and beneath the overgrown shrub, was a wooden plank with an extremely rusted nail sticking up. Of course I didn't see it, as it went half way through my foot and left a trail of blood as I limped back inside.

Thankfully I had already been vaccinated.

Not having any of the recommended vaccinations primarily puts YOU at risk.  However there are some people who, for valid medical reasons, cannot have some (or even all) vaccinations.  They rely on what is called 'herd immunity' to protect them.  If few people get vaccinated then herd immunity drops below the critical point and everyone else is at risk.

Herd immunity works by having a high enough proportion of the local population protected against the disease so that it cannot propagate through that community as too few people can pass it on to somebody else.

Tetanus is a very nasty disease (also called 'lockjaw' because of its effects) which you can catch through animal bites and cuts with anything that has been in or on the soil for some while (rust is not a cause unless also soiled).  Even a scratch from a low tree branch can transmit it to you.

The vaccine is proven to be very safe and there is no general reason why you shouldn't take advantage of its protection, which lasts for up to 10 years with each shot.

I know that there is a lot of misinformation about vaccines. Tetanus is completely unnecessary for everyone!!!...it rather harm the body - there is not a slight advantage to get a vaccination - no matter what!

What is the problem most of us have it in the UK every ten years. Only yourself is at risk, getting an animal bite, cutting yourself on something rusty, tetanus is a very serious illness.

Just get the shot. It takes about 10 seconds and doesn't hurt. Failure to do so does not put anyone else at medical risk.  Provided you can pay for whatever medical care you need in whatever country you happen to be in and provided you can guarantee to get to suitable medical care in time, you can probably justify in your own mind not having this simple shot to protect you from tetanus. Or you could just get the shot and not have to worry or take easily avoidable risk.
