What do you do when you're asked to learn something new at your job, but the training is recorded... and your attention span is low, and you're lacking sleep...? What are ways to get around this, short of telling the boss that you may not be able to handle it?

  • QA or Journalism...?

My mom is willing to put down $750 for me to learn QA and later do this for a living... I spent around 7 years studying journalism and ended up with a Mass Comm New Media degree. But have been working at a fast-food restaurant for 5 years, and hadn't had much luck with sending out resume to journalism-related jobs.

This QA course will involve a QA internship... maybe a job later... Might get me a career in something I don't really wanna do, just an alternative to living with parents and working at $12/hour.I'm 37 now, not married, no kids, no girlfriend.

At what point in one's life.. would you say... does one need to let go of what they want and do what is "handed" to them?

  • About tetanus shot...?

I'm leaning away from getting it... According to the current AMA standards, will I be putting others in danger if I don't have this? Or only myself if I get cut with something rusty? My ma said to get it only if I plan on going to someplace where a trip to a hospital won't be easy, 3rd World Country, maybe... Or long hiking trip, though if I have my phone and it's in the United States... Should be fine?

  • About bike shoes?

I was just wondering if anyone can tell me why they invest in cycling shoes? Is there anything wrong with riding a road bike and regular tennis shoes? I only go to the nearest park and back... A good friend of mine who used to be a professional cyclist strongly suggested I get serious bike shoes, but I'm not sure why...

My ma keeps snapping at me every time I come home from work, what I can/cannot touch, etc... I can't keep up w her rules... She went into extremist... I don't wanna get sick, but she's taking things too far... IMO... But the problem is my family in general, taking frustration out on each other...

  • Is this normal or should I resign from this job...?

My supervisor says things to me like... "You've been w the company 4 years, you should be able to do this/that more efficiently..." "You're a grown man, how can you not tell the difference between your hat and mine..." (They look identical, I took his by accident)

He's my supervisor, I'm not sure I'm at liberty to talk back to him, but I try... I find his words condescending... Would you quit over this... It's a fast-food restaurant, but I struggle w claustrophobia and not sure where else I can work and drive to ..

  • About my dad and a-fib...?

My dad was hit by car, though not terribly 2 days ago... He was brought to hospital and they said he has no broken bones or other issues... Just - higher than normal heart rate and irregular beat... He had irregular heartbeat before, he was not given meds. For two days he has been injected with meds to lower heart pressure...

He is now feeling weak, he wasn't before... And they wanna do shock therapy :'(. Isn't it possible the heart rate (it went up to 170) and irregular heartbeat is all result of getting hit by car and falling and hitting head? Why all the meds and shock... I feel funny and not comfy with anything they are doing... What if we refuse all this and let his body deal w the shock on its own...

  • At what body temp does one consider himself sick and call in sick to work? I"m at 100.2, feeling dizzy :(.?

Not the easiest process, calling in sick at this restaurant... Simple, fast-food, a looot of moving around... At what temp do others consider themselves too sick to work?

  • Is this bad enough to report?

Will just jump into it: I looked at a coworker's phone... Invaded his privacy, yes... I've done this a few times before and I have picked up others' phones and they have mine... In his case, last time I looked at it, not picked it up, and told him what a text from his wife said and he said, "thanks."

This time, his wife said something not meant for my eyes. I did NOT pick up his phone, it was laying in plain sight and the text was right there. I realized I was wrong... I told him... My apology was met with "you don't know boundaries!!!" etc...

It seems I don't know right from wrong... He seemed to calm down in next few minutes, and I thought we were okay and I asked (maybe stupid), how he and his wife met. "None of your damn business" was the answer, "stop asking personal questions!" I got a lil mad, too, now... I let this marinate, and then said "you got me to realize how "personal" depends on the individual..."

Now he came up to me and said, "you are making me VERY mad!! So mad, that... that I Could..." then he stormed off...

Besides that I don't know when to shut my big mouth, which is true... Was this a threat? I have gotten on ppl's nerves in the past, NOTHING this bad has ever happened, though... Should I report this?

  • Problems at work... please, help?

I work at a fast-food restaurant. A coworker of mine has recently changed his attitude towards me like night and day... We had a bad day with tons of customers; I wanted to catch up in the back, while he wanted me up front to help him with customers. It's very typical, though, here to have on person helping a long line. My shift was to end around 7, I had plans after that, so I wanted to work in the back and help customers on the register, then back. He suggested I stay on the line and he would take care of ALL the dishes alone later... I kept resisting and he got very mad... I thought it's unfair to him...

Last night I texted him with a question only he and the new guy could answer... New guy's number was not yet displayed... Text was sent before 10pm, but he replied 10 min's later, exact at 10 (maybe to make it seem worse than it really was). He answered my question, but then complained that he's not on the clock and that I must not text him any more... I was about to put phone down, but he sent 4 more texts... I tried to explain why I bugged him, then said night-night...

This followed with a threat to complain to upper management about me "harassing" him... Since I texted him AFTER he said not to, even though he sent 4 more texts...

Is he crazy..? I've been here almost 3 years... He - less than half a year. We got along VERY well until now! So well, he texted me at 11pm on a different Sunday night! Made me think, formalities are not necessary any more...
