Do Republicans actually want the Gulf Coast to be wrecked by bigger hurricanes? And want wildfires to sweep the West?
The fact is, record hot temperatures have helped California, Colorado and other Western states to see a huge growth in wildfires this summer -- a side effect of climate change.
In the Gulf of Mexico, unusually hot ocean waters -- another effect of global warming - helped Hurricane Laura grow to monster intensity and cause terrible damage to southwestern Louisiana and the Texas Gulf Coast.
Yet the Republican convention just celebrated the deregulation of the fossil fuels industries -- industries whose CO2 emissions are feeding "global warming" aka "climate change."
When will intelligent and scientifically literate Republicans get this? You can't keep promoting a carbon-based US energy future without promoting devastation -- not just in "liberal" California, but also in conservative red states in the South where white voters love you guys.
When do you wake up and change directions on energy, to save this country and your own political future?

Hurricanes, droughts and floods might well be due to global warming but it is too early to conclusively claim that. What is beyond doubt is that sea levels are rising due to thermal expansion of the oceans as the planet warms and that is accelerating as glacial and polar ice melts. The measured (using tide gauges) rate of sea level rise is particularly high on the Gulf Coast, 6.9 mm/y (0.28 in/y) at Rockport and 6.4 mm/y (0.26 in/y) at Galveston in 2019 for example. Across the world, the rate of sea level rise has been up to 5.7 mm/y (0.23 in/y) in Bangladesh. Many low-lying coastal areas around the world are already experiencing more frequent serawater flooding and that can only get significantly worse.

LOL, global warming. it hasn’t been this dry here since 1897
the native indians didn’t live in the hills of california because of the annual firesthe seminole indians (florida) taught the settlers how to hunker down for the hurricaneswhen you blame natural weather systems on some made up theory you’re the one that needs to wake up

NO RANTS ALLOWED !! Human action is only a small part of global warming. Your logic also fails. Thanks to Covid the economy (businesses, manufacturing, airplane travel, car travel - for work or vacation) has been cut in half, and yet you report the Gulf of Mexico has unusually hot ocean waters. Relax. We are all going to die anyway. I just prefer to not be unemployed and starve to death.

Weather "science" was wrong about the sustained intensity, path, and damage by Hurricane Laura.
Weather "science" predicted 3 to 6 inches of rain for my area due to the path of Hurricane Laura.
We got none.
Weather "science" predicted no rain in my area, yesterday.
We got about 2 inches.
On the local 10 o'clock PM news, the Weather "science" lady explained that the thunder storms "popped up out of nowhere". Weather "science" didn't see them coming.
When Weather "science" is able to accurately predict the weather 1 day in advance, then I might be willing to put some faith in the predictions of Weather "science" for 1 year or 10 years from now.
But, due to the record of Weather "science", currently, I have little faith in the predictions.

The Republican stand is "Fvck your grandchildren, this doesn't affect me now so I don't care".

Do you understand to you, Andy, are carbon? No carbon means no Andy. What's the alternative? Electric? that's produced by using carbon based energy. Windmills? They only work when there's wind. Horse & buggy? Really?
Natural gas is used in the home because it burns clean. Natural gas can be used in vehicles. Buses use it, taxis, street sweepers, even trains. We don't have to go backwards.
Andy, the gulf has had hurricanes long before the 21st century. Google it.

Republicans don't care about you, they are why the cares act hasn't been extended

Not that I think the global warming concerns are an excuse to raise taxes, ban a lot of things, and set up a nice profitable carbon futures market, but I was hoping our fine universities would develop practical fusion reactors. Of course underwater basket weaving and dividing people into groups and telling them America sucks is important too.
