Your A level grades are too old to be considered.

Instead, you apply as a mature student and if necessary you must complete and pass a one year Access Course. The exact course will vary according to the subject you wish to study. As an example, for Radiography, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Medicine, Dentistry and similar you’d need an Access to Healthcare Studies course. The qualification remains valid for only a few years; when I did mine it was valid for three years but I got my grade back in 2007.

Expect close questioning about your reasons for dropping out of your last Degree course. That costs Universities a lot of money and they will want to be convinced that this time you have the maturity and life-experiences to carry on even when things get hard. The very fact that you are only just completing your electrician qualification and already want to jump ships does not inspire confidence although an excellent pass grade will prove your ability to study.

Also, as you have previously had a Student Loan for a Degree course, it is most unlikely that you will qualify for another one unless it was at a post-graduate level (obviously doesn’t apply to you). There are some exceptions to that, so check with the Student Loan Company.

With study places severely limited this year and almost definitely next year due to the restrictions imposed by CV-19 social distancing measures, the admissions tutors are even more likely than usual to try and defer you for at least one year, so expect to be directed towards an Access Course, and when you finish that (if you start this year) expect to be deferred for another year as next September they will possibly still be dealing with CV-19 spacing but will also be facing all the students they deferred from this year.

If you have already dropped out I doubt you will get an offer or a student loan. Which degree do you want to take?

An Electrian is a career where you will never be out of work, every building has electrics, and you could start your own company in time.
